Eggplant Listada de Gandia
          New for 2014

Striking variety with white skin and lavender-purple stripes. One of the most beautiful eggplants. Tender flesh. Thin skin, does not need to be peeled. Fruits are oval to slightly elongated, 12 to 18 cm in lenght. Plants are relatively short, 35 to 40 cm high. Old spanish variety introduced in France around 1850. 75 to 90 days.

  Mustard Red Giant        New for2014

Popular asian mustard with large, thick, savoyed purple leaves. Sharp, peppery taste reminiscent of horseradish or wasabi. Can be picked extra young for baby leaf mix salads or later for stir fries, soups and other dishes. For a less intense flavor, cook the leaves (steam, stir fry, etc.). Both tolerant to heat and cold temperatures. Color intensifies during fall and turns from reddish bronze to a darker purple hue. Nice ornamental, can be planted alongside other veggies such as kale, palm cabbage, etc. Leaves can reach up to 30 cm, but better when picked at half this size.

Pepper Aji Limon                           New for 2014

Gorgeous lemon-colored peppers revealing a hot and fruity taste. Used in peruvian dishes to spice up fish, ceviche and sea foods. Peppers are bright yellow, thin-walled, slightly wrinkled and about 9 cm long. It is a Capsicum baccatum, which takes a while to produce ripe peppers. Pods start to turn yellow in September. Large plant with sprawling stems. Peru. 100-120 days.

Pepper Charapita

A rare variety from the Amazon, bearing tiny, orange fruits. Medium heat and nice fruity undertones. Bushy, compact plants, around 40 cm high.

Pepper Fresno

Jalapeno-style peppers with a slightly more conical shape, thinner walls and an upward growing habit. Versatile, can be used for a number of preparations (salsa, nachos, canning, etc.). The green pods are moderately hot (Jalapeno), but when they turn red, they step it up a few notches. An early variety well adapted for northern gardeners. 75 days.

Pepper Jamaican Hot Yellow

Pepper Joe E. Parker           New for 2014

NuMex type with thick, crunchy flesh. For chili rellenos (stuffed peppers), southwest-style grilling, or any other NuMex recipe. Long pods, 15 to 18 cm long. Tasty, low heat peppers. Usually eaten when still green. Similar to NuMex Big Jim below, but shorter, stouter pods, an a bit earlier. 70 days (green), 95 days (red).

Pepper NuMex Big Jim              New for 2014

NuMex type with very long pods and low heat. For chili rellenos (stuffed peppers), southwest-style grilling, or any other NuMex recipe. One plant can produce up to 30 pods, which can grow over 30 cm long. Supposedly holds the record for the longest pepper in the Guiness Book of Records (?). Generally eaten when still green. New Mexico (USA). Around 80 days (green).

Tomato Baby Roma                           
New for 2014

A mini version of the popular Roma tomato, with oval-shaped fruits, around 4 cm long, with a firm texture and a nice sweet taste. These keep very well after picking and stay firm for days. They look somewhat like grape tomatoes, but a bit larger. Big clusters, single or double, of 12 to 24 tomatoes, growing on quite tall plants, easily reaching 2 m high.  Mini Roma, Cherry Roma. 75-80 days.

Tomato Blush                             New for 2014

Beautiful mini saladette type featuring a yellow skin blushing with orangey-pinkish stripes. Nice fruity flavor. Dense flesh, not a whole lot of juice -and potentially a good yellow tomato sauce. Nice-looking tomatoes, not prone to cracking. Keeps also very well both on the plant and after harvest. It is important to let them fully
ripen to allow full flavor to emerge. 8 to 16 fruits per cluster, each about 6 cm long. Looks like a yellow version of Maglia Rosa. 80 days.
